About Us: More Than Just Space – A Birmingham Business Story

Welcome to Birmingham Self Storage. We are an independent, locally-owned business built on the belief that finding space shouldn’t be complicated, archaic, or restrictive.

We are not a faceless national chain. We are a Birmingham business, born out of real-world experience and a desire to modernise the storage industry for local residents, students, and fellow business owners.

Our Origins: From Office Furniture to Open Space

The story of Birmingham Self Storage begins with our founder, Paul Zhu.

Since 2002 Paul has run Allcam, a successful ergonomic office furniture dealer based right here in Birmingham. Like any growing business, Allcam eventually outgrew its premises.

When Allcam moved to a larger facility in 2024, Paul was left looking at the old building. It was a solid, secure structure in a prime location, but it no longer suited the needs of a furniture distributor. It was during this transition—navigating commercial leases and property agents—that the idea formed. Paul realised the building was perfect for solving a different problem: the desperate need for secure, flexible, and modern storage in Birmingham. He didn’t just want to open another storage facility with rusty padlocks and inconvenient opening hours; he wanted to use technology to create something better, smarter, and more accessible.

And so, Birmingham Self Storage was born.

What We Offer Today

Today, we operate across two distinct sites in Birmingham, catering to different needs but united by a commitment to security and technology.

  • Resident & Student Storage (Digbeth/Highgate): Our main building offers clean, secure, indoor storage units perfect for domestic goods, student belongings between terms, or decluttering your home.
  • Business Container Storage (Duddeston): Designed for tradespeople, e-commerce sellers, and growing SMEs, this site offers robust, ground-level container storage with drive-up access.

  • Individual, Customer-Monitored CCTV: We don’t just monitor the corridors. We offer individual CCTV cameras for units, which you can monitor live, 24/7, directly from your own phone for ultimate peace of mind.
  • Flexible Daily Licences for Businesses: We know that start-ups need flexibility. Unlike many competitors, we allow small businesses to use their units under a daily license as temporary office space or operational bases to get work done.
  • On-Site Business Support: We offer hourly meeting room hire at both sites and buy/sell pallets and boxes at our container site, acting as a true hub for your operations.
  • Valet Service: We take the hassle out of moving with collection and delivery services for boxes and pallets.
